Duct cleaning questions: what does it cost?

What does cleaning air ducts cost? For homes, Dutch price comparison sites quote an average of €150 to €250 for ventilation ducts (Werkspot) or €100 to €300 (Homedeal). Commercial work is different: a cleaning firm such as Hamster Cleaning works with a tailored price after inspection, depending on building type, duct length, contamination and accessibility.

If you buy equipment yourself, the calculation changes: a one off purchase against repeated outsourcing. Everything about air duct cleaning cost for cleaning contractors is in the cost guide.

Questions about frequency: how often should you clean?

There is no general statutory frequency. Milieu Centraal (Dutch public information centre) advises having the ducts of mechanical ventilation in homes cleaned at least once every 8 years. For hospitality, Rabobank advises at least once a year, and twice for a restaurant that fries a lot. In buildings with humidification, VDI 6022 sets a hygiene inspection every 2 years, and every 3 years without humidification.

The overview per building type is available under duct cleaning frequency for businesses.

Ventilation duct questions: clean them yourself or not?

Can you clean ventilation ducts yourself? Grilles and valves, yes: Milieu Centraal advises cleaning grilles yourself at least once a year. According to Milieu Centraal, the ventilation box with its motor is not a job for a homeowner. Companies with their own facilities team can clean ducts themselves with professional equipment, provided they seal off and extract.

The trade off is worked out under DIY ventilation duct cleaning.

Questions about standards and rules

The most important European standard is EN 15780. The 2025 version replaces the one from 2011 and now also covers kitchen extraction. In the Working Conditions Decree (Arbobesluit), ventilation is covered in article 6.2: installations must always be in good working order and supply enough uncontaminated air. In Germany and in many care institutions, VDI 6022 is the guideline for hygiene.

An explanation per standard is available under NVRL quality mark for cleaning contractors.

Questions about sectors: hospitality, care and more

Every sector has its own points of attention. In hospitality it is all about grease and fire risk: KHN (Royal Dutch Hospitality Association) reports that the frequency is not set by law, but that fire insurers do require regular maintenance. In healthcare, the guideline for operating theatres requires an air management plan with technical management and periodic checks.

Choose your sector via duct cleaning by industry, or go straight to kitchen extract duct cleaning for businesses.

Ductwork cleaning FAQ: equipment and methods

The three common routes are a rotating brush on a shaft, compressed air and, in large ducts, a robot. They always go together with extraction under negative pressure, so loosened dirt does not travel through the building. Which method fits depends on diameter, length, bends and the type of contamination.

Is your question not listed?

Then put it directly to Lamers. Through the contact page you can duct cleaner quotation for businesses, request a quote or ask for a callback. Mention your duct type, diameter, length, type of contamination and sector. The more of those details you include, the more specific the answer can be: a question about a 400 mm office duct with two bends gets a different reply than one about a short bathroom extract.

Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning FAQ

Who is behind luchtkanalen-reinigen.nl?

The site was made for Lamers Reinigingstechniek B.V. from Zelhem, a family business that has supplied professional cleaning equipment for more than 50 years. The guides are meant to help companies and institutions with questions about air ducts. Product information and quotations are handled by Lamers itself.

Where do the figures and standards on luchtkanalen-reinigen.nl come from?

Every figure on this site comes from a public source, such as Milieu Centraal, RIVM, KHN, Rabobank, standards publishers and the manufacturer Danduct Clean. Each page has a list of sources at the bottom. The reference date is 6 October 2026. Dust limits from EN 15780 come from trade publications, because the standard itself cannot be viewed free of charge.

Can I book a duct cleaning contractor through this site?

No. Lamers Reinigingstechniek B.V. supplies equipment and does not carry out duct cleaning itself. You will find explanations of methods, standards and reporting here, so you know what to look for when you bring in a specialist. Or you can choose to do the cleaning yourself with your own equipment.

Are the prices of Lamers machines shown on this site?

No, prices of machines and accessories are not shown on this site. You receive them through a quotation. The amounts you see in the cost guide concern outsourcing the cleaning and come from external sources such as Werkspot, Homedeal and a cleaning firm, not from Lamers.

Which brand are the duct cleaning machines that Lamers supplies?

The machines on this site, such as the DC4, the PD4 and the Intelligent Airnozzle, are made by Danduct Clean from Herning in Denmark. LIFA AIR is mentioned on some pages only for comparison. That is a different manufacturer and not a Lamers product.

Why are there no PD2 specifications on this site?

The PD2 is in the Lamers range, but on 6 October 2026 its specifications could not be retrieved reliably. To avoid claiming anything that is not correct, they are not shown here. Lamers will give you the current specifications if you ask by phone, email or through the form.

Do the tips on this site also apply to homes?

Partly. The site focuses on companies and institutions, but some sources concern home ventilation, such as the advice from Milieu Centraal on mechanical ventilation and MVHR. Where that is the case, it is stated. For commercial buildings, the Arbobesluit and standards such as EN 15780 also play a role.

Does Lamers also supply industrial vacuum cleaners besides duct cleaning equipment?

Yes. Besides duct cleaning, Lamers offers industrial vacuum cleaners, equipment for air purification and clean air, oil mist and chip extractors and equipment for emergencies, among other things. This site focuses on air ducts, but you can also ask Lamers questions about those other product groups.

How do I ask for advice if I am choosing between two duct cleaners?

Describe your situation through Ask a question or request a callback. Mention the diameter and length of your ducts, the number of bends and the type of dirt. With those details, Lamers can explain why, for example, an electric brushing machine or rather a compact power drill solution is the better fit.

Is Lamers also active for customers outside the Netherlands?

Yes, Lamers works internationally. This site describes the Dutch situation, with standards and rules from the Netherlands and Europe; the Dutch version is the original. If you use the equipment in another country, mention that in your request, so Lamers can take it into account in the answer.
