The differences are large. Amsterdam has 206,195 establishments, Doetinchem 7,680. But it is not only about numbers. A municipality with many restaurants needs different brushes and intervals from a municipality dominated by offices or workshops. That is why every city page has its own angle.
The equipment comes from the same address everywhere: Lamers Reinigingstechniek in Zelhem. Lamers has no branches in the cities themselves, but supplies machines, brushes and extraction to maintenance teams, installers and cleaning contractors throughout the country.

How do you use this overview page?
Below this text is an overview showing the number of inhabitants and business establishments per municipality, with links to all city pages. Every city page uses the same CBS source, but chooses its own focus. A few examples:
- Air duct cleaning in Amsterdam: many small units in a metropolis, with offices and hotels.
- Duct cleaning equipment in Rotterdam: industrial extraction and ducts wider than a standard brush set.
- Ductwork cleaning for Maastricht businesses: kitchen extraction, grease layers and insurer requirements.
- Air duct cleaning in Helmond: workshops and testing local exhaust extraction.
- Duct cleaning equipment in Schiedam: containment and a clear scope of work.
- Air duct cleaning in Nissewaard: schools, the Frisse Scholen (Fresh Schools) programme and the CO2 meter.
- Ductwork cleaning for Doetinchem businesses: a municipality in the Achterhoek close to Zelhem.
Duct cleaning by municipality: how to read the CBS figures
CBS divides business establishments into sectors. Those sectors do not tell you exactly how much ductwork there is, but they do show which kind of maintenance you will often come across. The last column gives the share of each sector in all 1,265,555 establishments of the current selection combined.
| CBS sector | What you find in the ducts | Further reading | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business services | dry dust in office supply and extract | offices | 26.2% |
| Government, education and care | dust, sometimes humidification and stricter hygiene requirements | schools and care | 17.7% |
| Trade and hospitality | grease from kitchen extraction | hospitality | 16.0% |
| Manufacturing and energy | production dust, chips, flour | industry, bakeries | 13.2% |
| Culture, recreation and other services | moisture from changing rooms and washrooms | hotels, sport | 11.7% |
All sectors with their own rules and points of attention are listed under sectors that need clean air ducts.
How the municipalities differ from each other
Put the city pages side by side and you see big differences in profile. A few examples from CBS 2024:
- Businesses per inhabitant: Amsterdam has 221 establishments per 1,000 inhabitants, Nissewaard just over 95. Many establishments per inhabitant points to many small units, which calls for compact equipment for small ducts.
- Production: in Schiedam, 26.4% of establishments fall under manufacturing and energy, in Amsterdam 7.2%. More production means more local exhaust extraction and more aggressive brushes.
- Hospitality: in Maastricht, 20.6% of establishments are in trade and hospitality. The work there is more often about grease and insurers.
Those differences determine which kit you need, not the rules. The rules are the same everywhere.
Do different cities have different rules for clean ducts?
No. The frameworks are national or European. Article 6.2 of the Working Conditions Decree (Arbobesluit) requires sufficient uncontaminated air at the workplace everywhere. The Building Works Living Environment Decree (Bbl) governs the ventilation of existing and new buildings. And EN 15780, in a new version since 2025, is the European guideline for the cleanliness of ventilation systems.
What differs per city is the mix of buildings, and therefore which rules come up most often. In a city with many restaurants it is more often about insurers and grease layers. Where there are many schools, it is about Frisse Scholen and CO2. How often you need to clean is explained under duct cleaning frequency for cleaning contractors.
One set of equipment for several municipalities
Anyone working in several cities does not want a different machine for every job. A good basic kit consists of a brushing machine with shafts in several lengths, brushes from 100 to 600 mm, an extraction unit with HEPA and sealing products. For ducts where no brush fits, add compressed air with a camera.
Which combination suits your area depends on what you come across most. Compare the options under ventilation duct cleaning tools for cleaning contractors or see what the work costs under ductwork cleaning cost.
Which municipalities are included, and why?
The selection is based on the number of inhabitants according to the CBS Key figures for districts and neighbourhoods 2024, retrieved on 6 October 2026. On that reference date it consists of the 50 largest municipalities in the Netherlands plus Doetinchem. That municipality in the Achterhoek is included because Lamers is located nearby, in Zelhem. If municipalities are added later, they will be included in this overview.
Can't find your municipality? The same standards and methods apply. You can always duct cleaner quotation for cleaning contractors to discuss your situation.
Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning near me
For which cities is there a separate page on air duct cleaning?
On the reference date of 6 October 2026, for the 50 largest municipalities in the Netherlands by population, plus Doetinchem in the Achterhoek. The full overview with links is on this page. Every city page uses CBS figures from 2024 and has its own angle, tailored to the businesses in that municipality.
Where do the figures per municipality on this cities page come from?
From the CBS Key figures for districts and neighbourhoods 2024, table 85984NED, retrieved on 6 October 2026. For each municipality they include the number of inhabitants, population density, number of households, level of urbanisation and the number of business establishments per sector, among other things.
Are the rules for duct cleaning the same in every Dutch municipality?
Yes. There are no municipal rules for cleaning air ducts. The Arbobesluit, the Building Works Living Environment Decree (Bbl) and the European standard EN 15780 apply everywhere. What differs per municipality is which buildings are there and therefore which requirements come up most often in practice, such as insurer requirements in hospitality.
Does Lamers have branches in the cities on this overview page?
No. Lamers Reinigingstechniek B.V. is based at Ambachtsweg 2 in Zelhem. From there the family business supplies professional cleaning equipment, internationally as well. Lamers has no branch in the cities themselves and does not carry out cleaning work there. You request a quote or ask a question via the website.
Why is Doetinchem listed among the large cities?
With just over 59,000 inhabitants, Doetinchem is not a large city and ranks 74th among Dutch municipalities (CBS 2024). It is, however, in the Achterhoek, close to Zelhem where Lamers is based. For businesses from the region it is a logical point of reference. The page uses the same CBS source as the other city pages.
My municipality is not listed: can I still order equipment?
Yes. The city pages are a selection, not a delivery area. The standards, methods and machines are the same everywhere. Lamers supplies cleaning equipment wherever you work. Request a quote, request a callback or ask a question about which machine suits your buildings.
How does the number of businesses per inhabitant differ between municipalities?
Considerably. According to CBS 2024, Amsterdam has 221 establishments per 1,000 inhabitants, Nissewaard just over 95. Many establishments per inhabitant points to many small business units, which calls for compact equipment for small ducts. Few establishments per inhabitant points to a residential municipality with relatively many schools and facilities.
What does a CBS sector say about the type of duct contamination in a city?
It gives a direction. Trade and hospitality points to kitchen extraction with grease, manufacturing to production dust and local exhaust extraction, and government, education and care to schools and care locations with stricter hygiene requirements. How many businesses actually have a commercial kitchen or production line is not in the CBS table.
Can I work in different cities with one set of duct cleaning equipment?
Usually, yes. A brushing machine with shafts in several lengths, brushes from 100 to 600 mm, extraction with HEPA and sealing products cover most of the work. For very small ducts or tight bends, add compressed air with a camera. For ducts wider than 600 mm, ask Lamers for advice.
How often are the city figures on this site updated?
The current figures come from the CBS table for 2024 and were retrieved on 6 October 2026. Each figure lists CBS 2024 as its source. When CBS publishes new key figures, the pages can be updated. The standards and advice on the city pages have their own reference date.
