This page is written for those who do that work or want to start doing it. You will read which intervals manufacturers and Milieu Centraal (Dutch public information centre) mention, what consumers pay according to price platforms and which compact equipment suits residential ducts.
Lamers Reinigingstechniek is based in Zelhem and supplies the machines from Danduct Clean. Lamers has no branch in the province of North Holland and does not carry out any cleaning itself, but advises on the right machine for your type of assignments.

Alkmaar in figures: homes and businesses side by side
With 112,304 inhabitants, Alkmaar is the 28th largest municipality in the Netherlands (CBS 2024). At 1,018 inhabitants per km², the municipality is less densely built than the big cities, and business activity is widely spread:
| Indicator | Alkmaar | Meaning for the work |
|---|---|---|
| Households | 54,312 | large market for MEV and MVHR ducts in homes |
| Establishments in total | 16,200 | 144 per 1,000 inhabitants |
| Business services | 3,850 (23.8%) | small offices with local extract |
| Government, education and care | 3,000 (18.5%) | schools and care locations |
| Trade and hospitality | 2,815 (17.4%) | shops and kitchens |
| Manufacturing and energy | 2,500 (15.4%) | workshops |
Percentages calculated on 16,200 establishments. For an installer, that spread means many assignments of limited size, with short ducts and small diameters.
Ventilation duct cleaning Alkmaar homes: which intervals apply?
For home ventilation there is no statutory cleaning duty, but there is clear advice. It is remarkably consistent:
| Component | Advice | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Extract ducts of mechanical ventilation | have them cleaned at least once every 8 years | Milieu Centraal |
| Ventilation box | maintenance once every 2 years | Milieu Centraal |
| Whole MEV system | check roughly every 4 years | Milieu Centraal |
| Ducts of balanced ventilation | roughly once every 8 years | Milieu Centraal |
| MVHR filters | replace at least twice a year | Milieu Centraal |
For the resident, grilles and filters are their own job. The duct and the box are work for the professional: Milieu Centraal writes that you cannot carry out maintenance on the ventilation box with motor yourself.
Mechanical extract or balanced ventilation: what differs on site?
With mechanical extract, the box draws air from the kitchen, bathroom and toilet. So you only clean extract ducts, which often contain grease and moisture from the kitchen and bathroom. Method and points of attention are described under mechanical ventilation cleaning.
With balanced ventilation you have two duct networks: supply and extract. The supply brings fresh air to the living areas. Milieu Centraal warns that with dirty filters, moulds and bacteria can be blown along. According to Milieu Centraal, valves in balanced ventilation should be cleaned by a technician every 2 years. Points of attention for ducts of balanced ventilation are on a separate page.
A practical point: a laboratory study from 2025 showed that heavily fouled filters in an MVHR unit delivered 37% less supply air. A resident does not notice that on the electricity bill, but does notice it in the air at home.
What do clients pay, and how do you cost your own equipment?
The price platform Werkspot quotes an average of €150 to €250 for having ventilation ducts cleaned, €175 to €300 for an MVHR system and an hourly rate of €50 to €75. Those amounts concern private customers; for commercial buildings, cleaning firms usually work with a tailored price after inspection.
Fictional calculation: suppose you charge €200 per home assignment, the middle of the Werkspot range. Subtract your travel time, consumables and hours. Set what remains against the purchase price of the equipment, which you receive from Lamers on quotation. That lets you work out yourself how many assignments you need to earn back that price. More amounts and how they are built up are covered under duct cleaning price.
Keep the calculation honest by using your own figures for travel and hours, not the most optimistic ones. A sum that only works with a full diary every week is a warning sign; one that works at half capacity gives you room to grow.
Small residential ducts: which machine fits?
Residential ducts are short and narrow and often have a few bends between the valve and the box. Compact equipment suits that work.
- PD4: driven by a power drill, cordless or mains, with a shaft of 2.5 to 7.5 metres. Danduct calls it 'perfect for small ducts'.
- PD5 for comparison: ducts from 80 to 250 mm, shaft of 3 to 15 metres.
- Intelligent Airnozzle: compressed air with a camera for ducts from 30 mm and tight bends.
- Soft brushes: according to the US EPA, the choice for ducts made of fibreglass duct board and thin sheet metal.
For most home assignments, the PD4 duct cleaner for businesses is a logical start. If you also want to take on larger commercial buildings, you can air duct cleaning tools in practice side by side.
Growing into commercial assignments in Alkmaar
With 3,000 establishments in government, education and care and 2,815 in trade and hospitality, Alkmaar also offers commercial work. That asks for more than a residential kit: camera inspection, negative pressure with extraction, sealing off duct sections and a report with photos. According to a price overview from April 2026, one cleaning firm charges €450 to €950 for a camera inspection in smaller commercial buildings.
How to take that step as an installer or cleaning company is explained under professional duct cleaning contractor.
Duct cleaning Alkmaar, Dijk en Waard and Purmerend
An installer from Alkmaar usually also works in neighbouring municipalities. In air duct cleaning in Dijk en Waard, 19.4% of establishments are in manufacturing and energy, more than in Alkmaar. The page on air duct cleaning in Purmerend shows a picture similar to Alkmaar, with 18.1% trade and hospitality (CBS 2024). So you can use the same residential kit widely, with a tailored addition for workshops.
All municipalities are listed under regional air duct cleaning for cleaning contractors. Ask Lamers for advice on a kit for your mix of assignments.

Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning Alkmaar
How often should the ventilation ducts of a home in Alkmaar be cleaned?
Milieu Centraal advises having the extract ducts of mechanical ventilation cleaned at least once every 8 years, and the ducts of balanced ventilation roughly once every 8 years. Near a busy road you replace the filters more often. The ventilation box should receive maintenance once every 2 years.
What does cleaning the ventilation ducts of a home in Alkmaar cost?
According to Werkspot, private customers pay an average of €150 to €250 for cleaning ventilation ducts and €175 to €300 for an MVHR system, with an hourly rate of €50 to €75. A cleaning firm sets its own price based on the number of valves, the length and the contamination. These are national amounts, not rates specific to Alkmaar.
Which machine does an installer in Alkmaar need for residential ducts?
For short, narrow residential ducts, the PD4 is a logical choice. It runs on a power drill and has a shaft of 2.5 to 7.5 metres. For ducts from 30 mm with tight bends, the Intelligent Airnozzle with camera is an addition. For the exact configuration, ask Lamers for advice.
Can a resident in Alkmaar clean the ventilation ducts themselves?
The grilles and valves, yes: Milieu Centraal advises removing them at least once a year and cleaning them with soapy water. The resident replaces MVHR filters twice a year. The duct and the ventilation box with motor are work for a professional, Milieu Centraal writes.
How many households and businesses does Alkmaar have according to CBS?
According to CBS 2024, Alkmaar has 112,304 inhabitants in 54,312 households, and 16,200 business establishments. That is more than three households per establishment. For installers, the residential market is therefore just as important as the commercial market, especially for mechanical and balanced ventilation.
Why are dirty MVHR filters in Alkmaar homes a problem?
A laboratory study from 2025 showed that heavily fouled filters in an MVHR unit gave 37% less supply air. Power consumption even fell slightly, so the resident does not notice it on the bill, but does notice it in the air quality. Milieu Centraal also warns that moulds and bacteria can be blown along with dirty filters.
Which brush do you use for thin residential ducts in Alkmaar?
A soft brush. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) names soft brushes for ducts of fibreglass board and sheet metal, to prevent damage. Danduct supplies soft, standard and more aggressive Tynex brushes from 100 to 600 mm, and soft shafts for small ducts with bends.
Can a cleaning firm from Alkmaar take on commercial jobs with a residential kit?
For small offices sometimes, but commercial clients often ask for more: camera inspection, negative pressure with extraction, sealing off duct sections and a report with photos. Extend your kit accordingly before you send out quotes. Lamers advises on extraction and sealing products next to the brushing machine.
What is the difference between MEV and balanced ventilation when cleaning in Alkmaar?
With mechanical extract you only clean the extract ducts of kitchen, bathroom and toilet. With balanced ventilation there are two duct networks, supply and extract, plus an MVHR unit with filters. Those supply ducts bring air to the living areas, so the resident notices contamination there directly.
Does Lamers have a branch in Alkmaar or North Holland?
